Societies Fair & Audition Signup

Visit the CUJO stall at the CUSU societies fair on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th October to sign up for auditions, or contact Tom directly (see the contact page). Auditions will take place at the end of that week, and our first rehearsal will be on Thursday 14th October.
The entire band re-auditions every year, so every place in the band is decided by the audition process. Auditions are fairly informal - you'll be asked to sight-read some music, improvise on a jazz standard if you are able and play a pre-prepared piece if you have one. There is no minimum standard required, but most of our musicians have at least grade 8 on their instrument and some previous experience playing in big bands and jazz orchestras, and in smaller groups. There is a particular emphasis on sight reading, as limited rehearsal time means the orchestra needs to be able to master new music quickly and efficiently.
