09-10 Roundup
21/07/2010
Well that's it for CUJO for 09-10 - we've finished our last gigs of the year at Montreux jazz festival - we had a great crowd so cheers if you were there! Other highlights in switzerland include a german hip-hop brass band, a curiously ethnic digeridoo-based latin/boogie-woogie/thrash metal group, seeing Herbie Hancock do a great show despite having to stand up for 6 hours, and swimming in the lake at 3am. The perfect way to round off the year!
Other highlights throughout the year - our first (surprisingly successful) gig after one rehearsal at Wolfson, a packed out gig at West Road concert hall with Steve Waterman, the Bull's Head on boat race day (Cambridge won!), gigs at the Casa del Jazz and the amazing Ambassador's residence in Rome, and of course the regular gigs at John's, Catz, and Sidney May Balls.
Me and Matt just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to our gigs and more importantly the band and especially our members who are leaving, it's been an amazing year and a real privilege to work with such a great bunch of musicians! We've already got some great stuff planned for next academic year (starting in October) - the co-presidents next year will be myself (Tom Green) and Liam Dunachie, our keyboard wizard, and we'll handle the musical direction of the band and organisation of major gigs and tours, with some help from other band members.
Check back in a few weeks for details of October auditions and our start-of-term drive to hunt down the new jazz talent in Cambridge!
Cheers
Tom
